Motivation Monday


-uneven hips

-uneven shoulders

-uneven waist

-big 16 inch scar

-screw that sticks out too far and causes a noticeable bump


These are just a few ways that scoliosis has physically affected my body. The uneven shoulders/hips slightly improved after surgery but it will always be there. The uneven waist is always apparent no matter how often I do ab/core workouts.


I could focus on how my shorts are always longer on one side in the summer due to my uneven hips. Or how I'm very picky when buying tight fighting dresses because of my uneven waist. Or how one of my screws between my shoulder blades sticks out so much I have a noticeable bump.


Or I can choose to change my mindset and realize that despite all of these things, I am still beautiful! My body has been through a lot because of this scoliosis and I might have a few 'flaws' but just about everyone can find a 'flaw' with their body.


Instead I can choose to focus on the things I love about my body: my blue eyes, how strong my body is, and embrace my 16 inch scar! I could also repeat positive affirmations to myself (that may or may not relate to body image): I am loved, I have so many opportunities and blessings, I am strong, I am proud of myself, etc. Don't get me wrong, when a tight dress shows my uneven waist/hips I usually notice it and I may not buy the dress because of it, but I move on to the next dress instead of dwelling on it.


Life is about more than just your physical appearance. Of course I think it's good to feel comfortable and happy in your own skin, but you are so much more than just your physical appearance. Embrace your unique body and the story that comes along with it!
